Worldpay®, a payment technology company, has unveiled support for the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), an open standard for AI commerce that lets AI agents, people, and businesses work together to complete purchases.
With ACP, US-based ChatGPT users will soon be able to shop directly from participating Worldpay merchants using Instant Checkout. Worldpay’s leading credential management and advanced fraud prevention tools enable merchants to accept transactions securely and reliably, ensuring consumers’ data is protected in the same way as traditional e-commerce transactions.
“For agentic commerce to truly scale, it must deliver seamless, secure payments that both consumers and merchants can trust,” said Cindy Turner, chief product officer at Worldpay. “Our credential management doesn’t just keep payment data safe – it keeps it up to date to mitigate failed transactions. We’re developing future-proof, multi-agent solutions designed for scalable growth. By integrating with OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol, we’re empowering merchants to stay ahead as AI transforms the shopping experience.”
Helping merchants
Worldpay’s credential-management solution will enable merchants to confidently adopt AI commerce use cases with flexible, acquirer-agnostic token management, automatic credential updates to minimise failed transactions, and enterprise-grade security to safeguard sensitive data at every stage.
As merchants navigate the evolving landscape of agentic commerce, minimising friction for consumers is more important than ever. Worldpay is innovating with a merchant-centric approach, ensuring that integration with emerging frameworks, such as OpenAI ACP and Delegated Payment specifications, is as seamless as possible so that consumers have smooth and secure checkout experiences.
By enabling effortless onboarding regardless of a merchant’s current payment processor, Worldpay will reduce technical barriers, accelerate adoption, and empower merchants to achieve multi-agent interoperability across platforms. This future-proof approach ensures merchants can meet their consumers where they are as agent-led commerce rapidly evolves in a dynamic marketplace.
Turner also added:“Collaboration and a commitment to open, connected ecosystems will fuel the next wave of innovation. We’re building for the ecosystem of AI agents that will define commerce tomorrow, leveraging open frameworks like ACP. Our token management, credential intelligence, and strategic partnerships provide merchants with the foundation they need to compete and thrive.”
