Zeeco, a New Zealand fintech, teamed up with Salt Edge, a leader in offering open banking solutions, to access users’ bank data and automate eco-contributions.

With raising awareness on the environmental problems in the world, more and more industries turn to eco-friendly solutions and now even everyday shopping can benefit the planet. Zeeco is an app that lets users shop carbon free anywhere. By connecting directly to the users’ bank feed Zeeco can calculate the carbon footprint of everyday purchases like food, clothing and travel, and allow users to offset the emissions automatically by supporting global reforestation through the nonprofit organisation Eden Reforestation Projects. Zeeco selected Salt Edge for aggregating users’ data securely and automatically.

With Salt Edge Partner Program, Zeeco can now skip integrating with thousands of banks and get access to open banking channels of UK and EU banks in a PSD2 compliant way, without acquiring an account information licence. As in addition to New Zealand and Europe, Zeeco plans to launch in other regions of Australasia and then America, the access to over 5800 financial institutions worldwide is a cornerstone of its expansion strategy. Driven by Salt Edge’s data aggregation and enrichment solutions, Zeeco allows people to support global reforestation projects, manage their environmental impact and fight climate change on the go as they shop.

Jon Krebs, Founder & CEO at Zeeco ” I have been looking for a platform that would enable us to build a truly global product. The wide range of banks and countries supported by the Salt Edge platform solved that challenge for Zeeco. As for a developer, the clear and well-structured API documentation made it an easy choice over some alternatives I have previously struggled to integrate with. Having a modern API and streamlined API system provides an advantage of rapid development”.

Lisa Gutu, Head of Business Development at Salt Edge “We believe that right now it is more important than ever to raise ecological awareness and it’s exciting to collaborate with a company like Zeeco, moving towards a greener future, as open banking brings unlimited applicability in every aspect of daily life. At a time when the infrastructure’s impact is evident, Salt Edge is happy to help Zeeco use financial data the best way through means of open banking”.
