Innovate Finance has today launched a film, produced by BBC StoryWorks, highlighting the transformation of financial services, and the impact of Covid-19 on the FinTech sector.

‘Innovation in Finance: Crisis to Catalyst’ explores the growth journey of innovation in financial services – from the 2008 financial crisis and the birth of FinTech, to the challenges of data privacy, diversity and the impact of COVID-19 on FinTech and society.

The 30-minute film features some of the leading figures in the global FinTech ecosystem, including; Nik Storonsky, Founder and CEO of Revolut; Lisa Jacobs, Europe Managing Director of Funding Circle; Tim Levene, CEO of Augmentum Fintech; William Russell, Lord Mayor of London and Ben Davey, CEO of Barclays Ventures.

The film has been launched as an education tool to broaden the public’s awareness and understanding of financial technology – how it started, its growth journey and wider evolution in financial services, and how Fintech is now crucially helping society as it battles with the global pandemic.

The documentary also focuses on the sector’s efforts to tackle issues of diversity and inclusion, especially the need for FinTech to lead the way on creating inclusive working environments, and developing data algorithms that accurately reflect its customer base.

Charlotte Crosswell, CEO, Innovate Finance, commented: We are proud to be launching a film that so brilliantly highlights the impact FinTech has had on finance over the last decade, and the unique role it has to play in the current crisis. The evolution of the sector – and financial services more broadly – has been a tremendous success story, demonstrating the growth of a UK-originated trend that has evolved to become a truly global phenomenon.

“We hope that the film will serve as a valuable education tool for the public, raising awareness of how FinTech is changing the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. The COVID-19 crisis has accelerated the speed of digital transformation across the economy, and it is vital we showcase how FinTech is able to support individuals and businesses with their financial decisions as we emerge from the crisis.
