Airwallex, a global payments and financial services platform for modern businesses, has witnessed exponential growth in the Netherlands (NL) in the last year, with year-on-year revenue increasing 199 per cent in Q2 2025 compared to Q2 2024.

Airwallex’s rapid expansion in the Dutch market reflects strong client momentum, with its customer base nearly tripling over the past year. New names like Creative Fabrica, Aurum Brothers and Vallon have joined an existing roster that includes Bird, Nivoda and WeTravel.

Airwallex now has specific product launches live in-country, addressing specific customer needs:

  • NL IBANs to provide customers in the market with local account details;
  • Integration with Exact Online, an ERP provider, to support Dutch businesses by automating their bookkeeping processes; and
  • Offering multi-currency settlement services, enabling foreign exchange (FX) cost efficiencies by accepting and paying in customers’ required currencies and preferred payment methods

To support such rapid growth, Airwallex has bolstered its commercial team and made a number of senior hires. Most recently, the NL team has been strengthened by Tom Butlin, senior director compliance, joining from Mollie. This follows Laurens Maartens joining as executive director yield and Bart Verweij as treasury director.

To accommodate the expansion of its team, now with a 50-strong headcount – which includes a large and growing number of engineers – Airwallex’s NL office has also recently moved to a central location of the Silicon Canals, alongside other major fintech players.

Netherlands success

Kai Wu, chief revenue officer at Airwallex, said: “Digitisation has driven an explosion of cross-border payment volumes and Airwallex sits at the heart ensuring businesses are set up with the right financial infrastructure to support this. We have seen continued impressive growth across EMEA, with the Netherlands success mirroring that. We’re excited to continue to invest in both our technology and our local teams to continue on this trajectory in the country.”

Bob Zonderwijk, gounder of MatchWornShirt, also added“We are pleased to be one of the first customers on the ground here in Amsterdam. The partnership has been great and the Airwallex platform is already making a difference in a number of significant areas in our business.”

Airwallex also recently closed a $300million Series F funding round valuing the business at $6.2billion, with new investors such as Visa Ventures, Airtree and Blackbird joining existing names such as Square Peg, DST Global, Lone Pine Capital and Salesforce Ventures. It also announced a new global partnership with Arsenal football club.
