Ecommpay has launched a static QR Code Payment solution that lets merchants accept one-off payments without a card terminal or technical integration.

The global payments platform said the new feature is aimed at use cases including tips, charitable donations and payments to small and micro-businesses.

Merchants can generate a reusable QR code from the Ecommpay dashboard and display it on printed signs, receipts or web pages. Customers scan the code and are taken to a merchant-branded payment page, where they can select or enter an amount before choosing from the payment methods made available by the business.

The merchant can decide whether customers enter their own amount, choose from preset amounts, or have access to both options.

Ecommpay said the feature requires no coding or development work, making it suitable for smaller businesses that want to accept digital payments without setting up a card machine or integrating a new checkout.

Examples given by the company include pay-as-you-go fitness sessions, farmers’ market stalls and school fairs, as well as restaurants collecting tips and charities accepting donations.

Quick and simple

Artus Zaremba, head of payment solutions at Ecommpay, said: “We have built QR Code Payments to make it quick and simple to send one-off payments – the digital equivalent to leaving a £5 note tucked under a glass when you leave the table or throwing a few coins into a collection bucket as it passes.

“Fewer customers carry cash today, so servers and charities can miss out even if someone wants to leave a tip or make a donation. With QR Code Payments, merchants and charities can display a static QR code to help capture these payments.”

Businesses can customise the payment page with their logo, background image, title, description, button text and thank-you page. They can also choose which payment methods customers see.

The same QR code can remain in use indefinitely, with merchants able to copy, download, customise or deactivate it through the Ecommpay dashboard.

The solution supports 3DS authentication and Address Verification Service checks and works with payment methods available through Ecommpay.

Zaremba added: “This latest enhancement also provides a simple solution for small or micro-businesses to accept payments without using a card machine.

“The merchant can choose whether they or the customer sets the amount and choose which payment methods are made available. They also set the look and feel of the payment page, giving them control over their brand experience.”

QR Code Payment forms part of Ecommpay for Small Businesses, the company’s package for smaller merchants, which Ecommpay says can enable businesses to begin accepting payments within hours of onboarding.
